Isn’t that the little jingle? Something something something David’s Bridal…
You may remember that while at the LA Bride Expo, I bought a dress. It’s still in the trunk of my car. But, I also made an appointment at David’s Bridal. I thought it’d be a great place to go for bridesmaid’s dresses since my girls are, quite literally, all over the place. But I figured I’d try on some dresses while I was there because I’m not completely sold on the dress in my trunk for a few reasons. One, it’s strapless. Two, it’s one size too small. Three, it was one of the first real wedding dresses I had tried on and the place was closing, so I made a snap judgment to buy it. I felt like that judgment may have been clouded. So, I decided while at David’s I’d try on all sorts of stuff, running the gamut from long, elaborate dresses, to simple tea lengths. All while my sweet, dear friend Shannon was in tow to take pics and try on bridesmaids dresses. Also, a big shout out to Jocelyn of Burbank’s David’s Bridal, who was possibly the coolest, most awesome bridal consultant I could have gotten. The adventure below, concealed behind a cut because Ritchie won’t consider even looking at the options (argh!), lest he accidentally, unknowingly, see the dress I will end up wearing before the wedding. Sigh.
I’ll start with the rejects. I’m not going to include the links and such to dresses because A) I’m lazy and B) it’s David’s Bridal and I can’t imagine finding one of these on the web site would be all that hard. So if you’re really dying to know what one is specifically, let me know and I’ll dig it up for ya. Also, I’m going to apologize in advance- I hope I don’t offend anyone with what I think looks bad and what doesn’t. If I hate on your dress, I’m sorry, but all my opinions are based solely on how I felt about the dress on me.
I wanted to try on more strapless dresses to see if any of them looked decent and to make myself feel a little bit better about the fact that the one I purchased is strapless and maybe I can actually pull it off. This one was simple, but I thought kinda unflattering, hence the look on my face.
I tried on a couple of halters, but this one was the most flattering on me with it’s drop waist. I just ultimately felt like the halter didn’t look right on a wedding dress. Just a personal opinion.
Also, it had this thing coming out the butt of the dress that I thought was kinda weird. I’ve expressed my dislike for trains and I think this is the worst way to have one. Poof, here’s the train!
Here’s a case of the catalog dress looking 100 times better on the model than on me. Tell me this dress isn’t just gorgeous in this picture:
My friend Dana over at Lover’s Waltz turned me on to this dress, but she tried it on and hated it. I thought I’d give it a whirl on me just in case. No go.
I tried on a few tea length dresses, but thought they weren’t for me. They just didn’t look right and I felt kind of poured into all of them. I know that the fit will be better with alterations, but I just didn’t like the way I felt in them.
That is until I found this one.
I’m a sucker for the sash (I just love the idea of a pop of color with my dress), which I know can be added to any dress, but it’s already on this one and it’s so cute. And even though it’s lace and strapless, both of which feel weird on me normally, I absolutely adored it. I didn’t want to change out of it (in fact I stayed in it for several of Shannon’s bridesmaid dress rotations) and I actually got kind of giddy in it. It made me smile. That’s a big thing, I think. Jocelyn brought out the veil to mess around with, which she knew I had no interest in, but she was just having fun. And I kind of loved it all.
So that’s one dress I clearly loved. But then there’s also this one. This was the first dress I tried on and I really liked it, so much so that I went back and tried it on again before we left.
It’s very similar to the dress in my trunk, but with straps. The ruching (is that what it’s called?) seems to be a very flattering style on me. The only thing I really disliked about this dress was that it had a train that they claimed could not be removed. But I say if I’ve got a pair of scissors, that sucker could come off. It’s all about finding the right person to do your alterations, right?
We even added a sash (no pic, sorry) to it and it looked good. Shannon, Jocelyn, and I debated the dress ordeal- I was a fan of my cute tea length, Jocelyn thought the longer dress with straps was better suited for our evening wedding, and Shannon’s still rooting for the dress in the trunk. So we came to zero conclusions there in David’s and I’ve since put a week of work in between myself and the experience so it seems like a lifetime away. I’m still undecided, but according to Jocelyn I have about 6 weeks until I absolutely have to make a decision about a dress. I may continue to look, but for now, I’ll mull over these three options. What do you think? Which of the three do you like best, or do you think I should reconsider one of the rejects? Or maybe they’re all crap? All opinions welcome!

I definitely love the last two the best, but I think I really prefer the tea-length. It would be SOOOO cute with a purple sash! And purple shoes! OMG OMG OMG do it!!!!
I prefer both of these DB ones over the one in your trunk.
P.S. Tell Emo to help you decide! I actually tried my dress on in person in front of the boy to see what he thought.
I love the tea length dress! I like the sash in the back.
Yes, that’s exactly how I’d do it- with a purple sash and purple shoes! It’s definitely under consideration- I do love the tea length!
I am a sucker for long dresses.. and it would look really pretty with the purple sash! I agree with you on the train deal.. but the drop waist is really nice on you!
The last one is beautiful on you. That’s my pick.
Yay for purple sashes and purple shoes! I’ve never come across a fellow purple lady.
I love all three options really but I do think for an evening wedding, the trunk dress or the V neck ruched one would be best. It depends on how casual/formal your wedding is going to be. Either way, they all look great on you!
Love the tea length. If anything you can change into it after the ceremony!
I also really like the V-length. Word of caution: do not take the train off. It does horrible things to the cut and flow of the dress.
you got so super cute when you put on those heels and the tea length dress…
